  • “Black Roses” reviews [Malaysia]

    By Melody L. Goh
FIVE years ago, a young Finnish band played to a packed house at a small club in Kuala Lumpur. People didn’t really know who the band was, but its single In the Shadows really hit a chord with the crowd. Today, In the Shadows can still be heard regularly, and that says a lot about the popularity of the song. However, the band did not really enjoy the same popularity. The Rasmus, arguably one of “Finland’s best rock exports” is back with a new album called Black Roses. …read more »

  • “Black Roses” review [UK]

The Rasmus, after three years they have now and finally released their new album “Black Roses”. Their 7th album in 14 years of band history into which I don’t have to get into any further, do I? Their biggest hits were “F-f-f-f-falling” and “In The Shadows”, songs that made them known worldwide not just in Finland.

So here it is, long awaited by their fans: “Black Roses”. A beige-white cover and a pitch black CD, …read more »

  • “Black Roses” review [UK]

After the two successful albums “Dead letters” and “Hide from the sun”, The Rasmus change direction on their new album “Black roses”.
The previous 2 albums sounded like twin sisters if you ask me, so I am glad they decided on developing their sound into a more symphonic modern rock affair.
And add a touch of the 80′s (but not much) into this album and you’ve got yourself “Black roses”, the collaboration with producer / hitmaker Desmond Child was only for the best and an injection the band needed. …read more »

  • The Rasmus introduces “Black Roses”: “a pop tribute to our audience” [Italy]

You remember him with very dak hair, you image him like a dark and closed guy. Instead Lauri Ylonen, singer and leader of The Rasmus, presented to the meeting with Rockol with blonde hairs, in a nice mood and well-disposed to talk about the last creature of his band: the new album “Black Roses”.
Three years has passed from the last studio work of the finnish band (“Hide from the sun”) and in this time many things has happened in the life of the band. …read more »

  • Finest rock from Finland [Germany]

This should cause some delight within the preferentially black-dressed fandom/following: The new record by The Rasmus – Black Roses – comes close to the 2004 released payoff creation “Dead Letters”, musically and stylistically. So chances are not small that the stupid discussions about why singer Lauri Ylönen dyed his hair blond will ebb away soon and the fans will concentrate back on the music. After all, it wasn’t any different for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1999. …read more »

  • “Black Roses”: The Rasmus hit the mark [Germany]

Hard guitarriffs, sensitive melodies and the unmistakable voice of Lauri Ylönen, whose name is probably only known in connection with his band(name) : On “Black Roses” The Rasmus are their very own (style) from the first note to the last one.

The Finnish dark-rockers, in their homecountry unchallenged superstars, could start up after their mega-successes of Dead Letters and Hide From The Sun. …read more »

  • Black Roses review [Finland]

The Rasmus have the legendary Desmond Child as their producer on their new album, but it’s comfortable to see that Child hasn’t come to change the deepest appearance of The Rasmus. Black Roses is not some kind of yankee rock or overproduced radio crap, but, in the end, the same proper The Rasmus.
The input of Desmond Child is seen in the fusibility and smoothness of music. The lack of childish manners might be due to natural generation too, but the result is good anyways. …read more »
