The finnish Band The Rasmus is back in Mexico to present their new album “Black Roses” in which they assured to tell fragments of the band’s story in songs with positive messages, they affirmed they based on a manual about how to make a good film.
With a great enthusiasm and willing to answer the questions of the mexican press, the band leaded by Lauri expressed the reasons why they took so long to release their new album: “Delay was because the plan was more ambitious we wanted to make a story and get a connection between each song, it was something more artistic because first we wrote the lyrics and then we look for the music to each song”. Lauri said.
He also confessed for making the material they were based on a manual which their producer Desmont Child gave them when they began preparations.
It was a great honor to work with him because he is an alive legend, he gave us many ideas about how to make the album and a manual about how to make a good film, where is narrated in chapters like: “orphan”, “bum”, “warrior” and “martyr” we based the album on these four issues and we made a fictional story about two people. Many people who work making films worked with it, as the creators of ET, Titanic and Star Wars, he added.
Beyond what many people think about their music, the darkness they keep in their lyrics and their affinity for introducing topics about death, for them, one of the premises of “Black Roses” is the positivism: “The message is positive, although seeing the lyric they seem depressed, most of them invite to you to go on, that you can leave this crap behind. We dreamt about making music and have a band, although many people told us “you won’t achieve it” here we are, running our dream and that is one of the messages we want to share.
About talking issues about dreath, they added it’s something natural, although they told they admire the way the mexican audience worships this stage “Finnish people’s got more fear of death than here, because mexican people know how to handle the issue as part of nature and it is something nice to have this culture because we could not appreciate life without death.”
Influenced in the music of progressive bands from the 70s Lauri confessed that album’s art was created by him and means “a rose in form of a compass and the fifth point is where is going to the band, inside there is a lot of material for the public to discover things, particularly about the constellations and stars”. Finally they anticipated they’ll be back in mexico to make concerts “in April or earlier because we are excited to play here live, because fans are very enthusiastic and it helps us to feel good.”
