The Rasmus wants to back on top [Finland]

The Rasmus want’s more succes now. Band’s peaceful life of couple of years ends next week when the 7th album Black Roses comes to stores.

It’s the most ambitious project of The Rasmus’s career: the album has been polished over 1,5 years all over the world. On the top of all is the hit-maker Desmond Child who has been hired to produce the album.

In every respect here are high stakes in the game. Black Roses is the most expensive album in the history of The Rasmus’s record company, Swedish Playground.

“The Rasmus wants back to the top, and we were ready to effort to that”, Lars Tengroth, who has the responsibility of developing the company’s artists, explains.

“The band wanted to do very big songs. Hits, but not disposable hits. Making of the album costed just that much what it costs to make an album like that.”

Black Roses has been completed under big expectations. The label is waiting for some compensation from their effort, but also the band itself dreams about getting back to the tops of the world’s lists.

“They say we got it all after Dead Letters, when the truth is that be only got a little piece of success”, the singer Lauri Ylönen tells. “But when measured with the yardstick of a band from Suutarila it felt like we got it all. It made us more loose. If everyone is too happy, you easily stay to float on it.”

1,5 copyes of Dead Letters were sold all over the world, but the success didn’t continue automaticly. The sale of the next album Hide From The Sun reached only to a third of that.

“When we got like a punch to the nose, I found that conqueror inside me again”, Ylönen continues and gives a grin.

To a band like The Rasmus finding that hit is primarily important. The success of the band is directly dependent on gettin to the playlists of the hit-radios and music televisions.

“We like pop and aspire to make that hit-song” the guitarist Pauli rantasalmi openly admits. “It’s also a challenge. In my opinion making the hit is probably the most difficult thing to do in this business. A good pop-song which also has some vibe – it’s a fucking difficult combination.”
