Gloomy melodies [Finland]

The band benefits experience of the master producer.
Gyro Gearloose have a Little adjunct in Donald Duck. The Rasmus got one in their new album too. The album’s producer is like Gyro’s Little adjunct, genius big hits creator Desmond Child. With the master producer they make a theme album Black Roses.

The Rasmus got a international fame five years ago. Dead Letters -album sold more than one and half million. The album was number one on the charts in German, and in Britain The Rasmus broke the platinium line.

Big expectations
Dead Letters folllower Hide from the Sun idn’t get the same succes as DL, but you can imagine that BR would get it. Child has been marked to song maker to every song, and he had done for example Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a prayer, Ricky Martin’s Livin’ la vida Loca, Alice Cooper’s Poison and Kiss’ I was made for lovin’ you.

- It’s a big name. Desmond seems to be a topic in our every interview. But it doesn’t matter, it’s challenging to speak about him, tells The Rasmus’ singer Lauri Ylönen.

- Child’s songs have a big role in our youth. And now he produced our album, so the circle close now, Ylönen continue.

Stories
Sometimes we lived times when it was impossible to go through the day without hearingDesmond Child’s song.

- But it didn’t disturb me. Those are still good songs, drummer Aki Hakala bless.

- We heard many interesting stories about musician whose Desmond has been wotked with. Steven Tyler and so on. And Michael Wagener told us how did it feel to work with Metallica, when James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich stoond next to him advising him, Hakala laugh.

Isaac’s church is not build yet
Black Roses is a theme album. Although The Rasmus – Ylönen, Hakala, Pauli Rantasalmi and Eero Heinonen – didn’t make a album which consist of one 50 minutes big hit, which was familiar in 1970.

- Actually we were doing a song which was already 20 minutes, Ylönen confess.

- The working name was Isaac’s churc, and it was going to be The Rasmus’s Bohemian Rhapsody. Then we realize that time wasn’t ready for a Isaac’s churc. You can’t put that kind of shit out.

It is now in drawer, but otherwise the band compose their album in different way than 6 others.

- We made it like a wrong discipline. This time we had the story before melodies. Every song name was like a chapter. It fool liberating, more spontan and surprising, Ylönen says.

Dark lyrics
Black Roses sound world is new for The Rasmus.

- It’s sounds more pop. Though somehow it’s more brutal, a little like Depeche Mode – feeling. And lyrically Black Roses is very dark, Ylönen tells.

Aki Hakala reminds that whatever the sound is, the melodies are the most important for The Rasmus.

- We didn’t make any college rock regardless Desmond, Hakala reminds.

Desmond Child’s name is often connected with big sale numers. That’s why we had to act a question for The Rasmus, which the musicians doesn’t love. How BR is going to be succesful commercially?

- Expectancys are good. We have a positive pics in our eyes, Lauri Ylönen says.
