Black Roses review [Finland]

The Rasmus have the legendary Desmond Child as their producer on their new album, but it’s comfortable to see that Child hasn’t come to change the deepest appearance of The Rasmus. Black Roses is not some kind of yankee rock or overproduced radio crap, but, in the end, the same proper The Rasmus.
The input of Desmond Child is seen in the fusibility and smoothness of music. The lack of childish manners might be due to natural generation too, but the result is good anyways. Another element brought by Child is the big melodies. With these features they could go and knock on the stadiums’ doors.
The Rasmus dares to use silly melodies as well. Darkness is not as much in control as it was with the previous Hide From The Sun (2005). The dancable beats at their best fit perfectly with the Finnish melancholic melodies. The main force of the songs is still the personal and very comfortable vocals from Lauri Ylönen.
The strongest songs on the album are the soft-rock song Justify, which chorus is hard to forget, defiant and stormy You Got It Wrong, and Dangerous Kind which has a volume of block house of energy. The rest of the album’s material works well too and manages to keep the eagerness of listening between hits. Every song on this album is justified to exist.
The Rasmus sounds bigger than ever and has become international very competently. Calculated, radio-friendly music is not easy to make if you still want to make personal music. The Rasmus hangs between these two spirits. There so much personality in The Rasmus that it should be even more brought out. When focusing in big markets the direction tends to be the opposite.
