After travelling almost all night and almost 24 hours late The Rasmus made a great performance, but the leading performer, Children of Bodom blew the bank. Returning from their American tour they gave us a spectacle in their only gig in their homeland, which culminated not only the Ankkarock, but also the whole festival-summer.
For the past 11 years The Rasmus hasn’t cancelled one single gig but on a weekend at Ankkarock it was about to happen. Saturday evolved to quite a nervous thriller, as Finlands export-pride was about to get stuck on Faroer Islands (spelling) after their last gig. The whole day there was a sense of nervousness if the band will make it on stage during the day.
The nervousness was the knowledge that the fans were waiting, the singer Lauri Ylönen admits to IS.
“It was tight but the gig was done as it was supposed to. One time I had lost my voice but even then the gig was made but still I danced and performed all through the gig with a black blaster to cover my mouth. The other guys were doing all the singing” Singer with a high work-morals reminisces.
The fog that stopped all flights from the Island didn’t vanish until the early hours of Sunday and the planes were able to land to pick these imprisoned persons who were sent to pick them up and immediately could leave these Islands.
At noon on Sunday they were back on Finnish ground and after two hours they were on stage with an energy that they was no signs of sleepless night.
“I am sorry we are late” Lauri said politely at the start of their gig. “Gorillas in the mist finally made it back!”
Tomorrow morning The Rasmus will already be entertaining the Belgians and the same goes on for the rest of the year.
“In September we will be touring the U.S together with a band called “Lost Prophets” for a month. Then we tour South-America for the rest of the year” The drummer Aki Hakala reveals from their plans for this years.
Among the audience there are hundreds of The Rasmus fans coming from the abroad. Altogether there were around 17.000 thousands visitors at Ankkarock.
“Today on Sunday we will sell around 15.000 thousand tickets” The arranger Juhani Merimaa figured when the evening was about to start.
Despite all the hardships and exhaustion from the journey some of their hard-core fans. Among them was 16 persons from Britain and Canada. The youngest is 16 and the oldest 25.
