Aki’s beginning of enthusiasm for drums takes place in Espoo when he was fifteen. He could spend days banging away on the drums in his grandparent’s basement. Although this boy was occasionally wild at school, he was still a teacher’s favourite average student. He was interested in dealing with other students, so that he made a speech for school board leadership and school board membership. Although school was, in Aki’s mind, comfortable place to go, he appeared to lack and show little motivation.
Aki would always be a happy person, who enjoyed looking at and being around other people, but who also found he had to deal with matters alone. It seemed Aki had more close friends than a best friend.
Aki also considered himself a nuisance, that to be heard he had to torment the crowd he was with.
“Perhaps then I realise, how idiotic it was,” says Aki.
Aki names his fear as being alone: “That is always my greatest fear, that I’ll lose someone close.”
Aki got a handle on sixth form and started to mix/date, but before his first girlfriend would say yes, she had to check with her family.
Aki would arrive at their home, but they were always wanting advice and be inflexible frequently. Despite having small fights, they had mutual trust and were on good terms and preserved each other until their parents decided to come between the girl and Aki. His parents encouraged his style and interests.
Aki’s message to the young: “Believe in yourself and show your talent!”
