The Rasmus, fantasy or reality? [Mexico]

After experienced global success, this Finnish foursome sweeties returns with a new album full of energy, fantasy sparks and deep lyrics that inspire you to fly inside your mind and your heart. With this interview, we invite you to decode the opposite side from their essence. Dare yourself to know they musical metamorphosis.
Who are they and what they think?
• Lauri, singer and well known as one of the best songwriters from Finland. “My lyrics are always personal, every word have a meaning to me and remembers me things that happened in my life”.
• Pauli, guitarist, he received the Finnish Grammy for the Best Producer. “The best advice that I’ve learnt was: If you know something, share it”.
• Eero, is the bassist and the most quiet from the band. “Sahaja-Yoga is the source of peace for my mind and music”.
• Aki, joined to the band in 1999. “Pauli said me to join to the band after a jam session we had together, is great ’cause I love to play the drums”.

Perseverance effect
1994 • At the age of 16 years they joined themselves in their school to create a good band only for fun.
1996 • They recorded their first material, Peep, which with this one, they won gold discs.
1998 • 2nd album, called Playboys, with this one they received a Finnish Grammy.
1999 • 3rd album, Hellofatester , have the most voted single from their fans Liquid.
2001 • They were changed to a different record label and launched Into, having a world success.
2003 • With their fifth album, Dead Letters, they consolidated their success warranty.
2005 • New world wide launching, Hide From The Sun, let’s enjoy their cultivation.

TU: Which one do you think has been the key from your success?
Lauri: For what we heard, the bands you listen here have the same sound or at least the same music harmony. Is probably the closeness, but in Latin America are listened more American or Canadian bands than European, that’s why we thought that our sound have more success, just because it’s different from the daily basis.

TU: How do you do to keep your feet on the ground?
Lauri: We try to find a balance between the reality and the fantasy we are living to transmit it in our songs. I mean, day by day we get impressed with the reaction from our audience, for example, the Latin American countries are so far away from our origins and even that, we have a lot of fans, so for more unreal it might look, this is our life and we feel very thankful.

TU: What you can tell us from your fans?
Lauri: Although there are lot of people who thinks that our audience are only kids, we got to say that we have all kinds of followers. What can we say to them? We are in charge to play good music, with positive messages and all those people who want to listen and share it are totally welcome. We think that this happens because the messages we send are universal and anyone can be identified ‘Whatever might happen, just have to keep moving…’

TU: In your last visit you talked about the good vibe you felt in Mexico, this have some influence in the new album?
Lauri: Obviously our tour we have some kind of influence in the songs from this album, but we don’t talk in specific about a place, is the vibe and the learning we had in that time. Anyway, is important to comment about how much we like the Latin countries and how happy we are of being around here.

TU: What’s the most enjoying thing you felt when you record an album?
Lauri: Definitely, the opportunity to play it live, because is more spontaneous and we get along for the vibe from the people, also we like to feel the adrenaline that flows on stage and feel the risk that something bad might happen. In fact, we believe that this feeling is like the life, that’s why we have to enjoy it, you’ll never know how is going to surprise you.

TU: We couldn’t avoid the most repeated words in your songs, run and hide, is a casualty or a real causality?
Eero: Yes it have a reason to be, and is just that we like to share what happens in our lives. For another way, it have something from the past from our country, where many people that were looking for a change was accused and brutally punished. Unfortunately, we find out that despite of that happened so many years ago, the people are afraid to the change, they keep closing to the evolution just because they are not agree. So, when we thought about it, we decided to write a song with the object that people get free and be happy.

TU: Why do you have a rough look when your songs are really cute?
Aki: All the persons, just like us, have opposite sides in their inner, positive and negative, dark and pop, good and bad, but each person have the responsibility of being what they want to be. That’s what happens with our songs, might sound very cute, but getting deep in the meaning of the lyrics, we are really touching strong themes like death. There will be always inside our lyrics dark parts, but we try to keep a positive tone to leave a little piece of hope to the problems we handle.

TU: Which is the mission for you, of being in such a popular band around the world?
Lauri: We try to write songs that talks about a searching of oneself, to find the meaning of the own life, and the young people get identified with that. We all know that we been through a horrible situation when we feel ugly and rejected, that’s why each one of us thanks that there is a message that reminds you the opposite ‘Is worth to fight for you and your dreams’. We feel very happy and proud of know that behind we can make the music we like, we can help all the young people from the world to fight for what they want.

There’s no doubt that this guys have all the talent, the energy and the intelligence to become your best friends and advice partners, so don’t doubt about thinking with their songs and become their allied.
