The Rasmus meets James Hetfield [Finland]

James Hetfield is constantly looking for interesting bands. The musician is interested in Alice In Chains’ comeback (“Jerry Cantrell is the man with guitar”) and praises The Cult’s return to the stages (“I was watching the band in San Fransisco before my trip to South Africa and they were awesome”). Then Hetfield throws a question back at me.
- You told me you’re from Finland? The Rasmus is an interesting group and there are great tracks on Dead Letters.They remind me of the 1980s and for instance Def Leppard. The singer’s voice has a Bryan Adams-feel yet still they have a modern side to their music. I like that combination. I tried to buy their latest album in the USA, but couldn’t find it.
It hasn’t been released in North America yet. I told the guys to send you a copy of Hide From The Sun.
- Great. I remember another Finnish band. They have a song called Alone and I think the group’s name begins with an A.
Amorphis?
- Exactly. Interesting group, from what I’ve heard.
Later on I tell The Rasmus about Hetfield and the guys are of course excited. No wonder, The Rasmus started their own career by playing Metallica songs. Lauri laughs.
- Imagine Hetfield going to a record store and asking The Rasmus’ new album. We can now happily call it quits (laughs).
Let’s go to the next afternoon for a moment. Metallica arrives to the venue while Simple Plan is playing, before The Rasmus. The Finnish band climbs up on to the stage a little later, and Hetfield is standing at the side to the stage. But that’s not all. Couple of minutes later the rest of the Metallica men come out to follow the concert.
