Loved in Mexico – The Rasmus [Mexico]

Your prays were listened and the band returns to our country lead by Hide From The Sun
From Finland shadows, we had the chance to talk with the kind and gorgeous Lauri. From his rehearsal room he advantage us some details from their visit to our country, in exclusive for Grita, and he made sure that Mexico is strongly attached to his heart.

Aki, Pauli, Eero and Lauri will arrive on April 6th to perform for first time in the Auditorio Nacional to play the powerful songs from Hide From The Sun, after they smashed the country with Dead Letters.

Specially for the fans
- Pauli is a hip-hop fan. Always says that he can’t play well an instrument, but is an instrumentalist.
- Tequila tickle their throats, because in Finland is normal to drink too much.
- Lauri have a little black notebook that he carries everywhere and writes there his songs.
- They have a music studio called Dynasty, a place they build to record Finnish bands to come out to light.
- Tavastia Club is an emblematic place where they have played, just as other groups like Keane and Korn, and more.
- In their last visit to our country, Lauri went to the Kraftwerk show undercover and no one recognized him.
- 5,400 people were on the last signing in our country in Plaza Universidad.
- Their visit to the Teotihuacán pyramids marked them for life and the Mexican people warm.
- No Fear video were shoot in an abandoned electric central in Berlin.

Which are your best memories from Mexico?
The Acapulco visit, the meeting with Mexican Indians and what they told us about their culture. Then we had a couple of dinners and drank tequila.

You didn’t expect the huge reception?
There was a lot of people waiting for us in the streets and outside the hotel, we had a chat with our fans and they were very devoted. Your culture is a little bit different compared with the Finnish one, they are quiet and cold. In Mexico you have warm blood they touch you, hug you and kiss you. Wow, impressive. The first show was cool and could be the best show from the last tour.

So is true that Finnish people are less expressive and shy?
In Finland, everybody have secrets, maybe they are stuck in a problem and keep it locked in themselves. This influence that they might be reserved and shy. They don’t like to go the psychiatrist and, for this, I think we lead a huge suicide rank. It’s sad but it’s true.

How you feel about returning to our country?
It’s amazing to return to the same place, but now we have a place for 12,000 people, and we are going to show our new album live. We are more relaxed, we enjoy the stage and we are more positive than before.

Björk’s music takes me to other world that only I can imagine in my head.
What have you prepared for the next show in our country?

We still deciding which songs we are going to perform. We are going to focus on the last two albums, the most popular in Mexico, and also we could play songs from other albums. We’ll have an acoustic set and we’ll try to please the audience with what they want to listen.

Any surprise or special cover song?
We haven’t talked about playing a cover song, we would like to improve and we’ll see what happens on the soundcheck before the show in Mexico. We have the tradition to play something local, I don’t know a lot of Mexican music, but we’ll take some cd’s or something before the show. It’s cool playing something that everybody knows.

About Hide From The Sun, why you say that your lyrics give hope?
The lyrics we sang are beautiful. I try to clear the situation in my head to come up those feelings. Is something that comes from my life and I need to clean the table sometimes, leaving all behind. Especially in No Fear, is a very positive song, anything could happen, so go on and have no fear.

Love is around me, I’m not Buddhist, but I think it is everywhere. You just have to open your eyes to see it.
Why is the potency of your sound?

It just appeared on the studio, of course, with different guitars and basses. Eero and Aki set the whole thing, that’s their territory, as lyrics are mine. Maybe Pauli and his guitar were responsible of this business.

What’s the meaning for you about darkness?
Is something more safe than lightness. Hidden in the shadows, you can admire lots of beautiful things, and when the sun comes up reveals all the worst from the world. Maybe is too stupid to think this way, but I feel safe.

Do you have a ritual before playing live?

We go out together, and the backstage must have to be empty and with candles. It’s a beautiful moment before the show. Many bands likes to have all music volume, we need a silent and calmed space, because it’s an special moment.

My land Finland
