Interview with Eero and Lauri [Argentina]

The Rasmus is a band that were very famous with the edition of their album “Dead Letters” and the hit “In the shadows”.
They came here on Sunday to present us their new album “Hide from the sun”, and they were surprised with a lot of fanatics that did not let surprise them every minute.
“Rasmusmania” (Sorry, I don’t know how translate this ) was transferred to the Channel 9 on evening Tuesday where the band recorded some interviews (one of them with 10música.com) and an acoustic set for the programme “Daisy May Queen” that we can see it on TV very soon. There will also a complete report, it will see in 10 M, programme that Channel 9 perform every day 00:30 hours.
With an excellent humour, the fourth band members made an immediate contact with the few fans that could enter the study and then, they recorded 4 songs. We could talk with them a few minutes before.

Are your surprised because of the hit of their last albums “Dead Letters” and “Hide From The Sun”?
Lauri: Yes, we’re surprised. But also we’re surprised to have as much fame, here in Argentina. We came 2 days ago and there were people on the airport waiting for us, and also in the hotel. We’re surprised and very happy to stay finally here, because we’re together 12 years ago and it’s time to come here.

What about you, Eero? are you surprised?
Eero: It’s our first time here in Argentina and we didn’t know what to hope from here, or how are the fans, or how the show will go. But I see it very good. Tomorrow We’ll be on “Pepsi Obras” and few told me that is a stage for 4000 people, and they told me that it’s very possible that the tickets going to sold out!

How do you describe the sound of the last album “Hide From The Sun” compared with “Dead Letters”?

Lauri: I don’t know. Maybe this album is a bit more serious. Maybe some songs are harder than the last album, but there’s also songs more smooth, like “Sail Away”. I think that there’s more variety in the music.

Which were your fantasies when you began with the band, 12 years ago?
Eero: When we began with the band, we were 14 years old, and I think that we were very innocents, very teenagers, and we didn’t know what we could get with the band. We thought things like we wanted to do tour for over the world, and played shows in front of a lot of people. And finally it’s happening.

What music inspired you to form a band?
Lauri: I think that bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers or Metallica, that type of bands, they inspired us in the beginning. And it happened something funny now, that is very great too, because we did three shows with Metallica on SouthAfrica, before to came here. We had the luck to know them and have a drinks with them. It was so lucky, we were fans during 15 years, and it was very good for me.

How did you found the form musical that now defines you?
Eero: In the beginning we played a lot of different types of music. It was something like Skate-Punk or Punk-Rave, with us, singing lyrics without sense.

But we were looking for this type of music that we do now, melodic rock, it’s our stronger style. We are a rock trio that insists about melodies. A lot of Finnish bands are know here, like HIM or Apocalyptica. Do you feel something in common with those bands from your country?
Lauri: I think that all Finnish bands feel something in common, beyond the origin, even with old bands like Mellancolic or Big As Romance, that is a romantic band. I mean that each band is different, but they have something about Finland in their sound.

Finland is a famous contry because of the high standard of life. Finland is #13 according to an economic report of United Nations. This is real, perceive it?
Eero: There’s a lot of information about Finland. I think that what more is known is the security whereupon lives the people, who the government maintains the poor people, but also we have problems like Argentina or any country of South America.

What’s the nacional food in Finland?
Lauri: As here in Argentina, we eat many meat.

What type of meat?
Lauri: Meat of red deer. Roasted and in plate.

What’s the nacional drink?
Lauri: Nacional drink? I don’t know. We drink a lot of wine, although we don’t make it.

Do you think that it’s difficult for a band of Finland to lay way through Europe?
Eero: I think that yes. Because Finland is a small country and there are many bands. It is a very big movement if you consider the dimensions of the country. But to be a small country, that a little people know and not to speak natively English, is more difficult. If you come from United Kingdom and you have a good band and you have got something special is more easy. But if you’re famous in Finland, You have difficulty to jump to the European market.
