The division of Lauri [France]

When we ask Lauri Ylönen what is his favourite band, the answer doesn’t keep her waiting, the singer of The Rasmus says Muse. And he was quick to spot a cd of the English trio in our pouch, we promise him to keep it for the end of the blind-test. The occasion to talk about the rock hits of 2005.

Apocalyptica
“Life Burns” (feat. Lauri Ylönen)
It’s a great band, one of the most interesting of Finland. In what they do, metal with cellos, they are unique and original. I believe that they were formed at the same time as us, about 1995. We performed some TV-shows with them, I know them for a long time. They like to invite people on their pieces like Dave Lombardo, the singer of Guano Apes. It was a great experience for me to sing on this song with Ville Valo from HIM. It was all the more special as that joined together 3 Finnish bands. I’ve lots of respect in them.

HIM
“Wings Of Butterfly”
HIM began a little earlier than us, we know each other well. We have the same manager. Ville and me are all the more close since we done this duet with Apocalyptica. I like the music of HIM, it’s very romantic and dramatic while being melody. We’ll go in tour together with them next year.

Nightwish
“Sleeping Sun”
It’s one of my favourite of Nightwish. Actually, I prefer the original version, it was more organic, more brute. It’s a splendid song, it talks about Finland, I believe, the north, elements of the nature.

Rammstein
“Benzin”
I don’t listen the new album yet. I saw DVD’s, it’s a very visual band. They put a lot of money in their shows, there are always bombs, fire. I don’t listen to Rammstein but that they sing in German is really cool. All the more so as they succeed to be famous in other coutries than theirs one. They are famous in the USA. Germanic language go well with metal. It’s a band unique and interesting to see in a concert.

Green Day
“Wake Me Up When September Ends”
It’s great that they did such come back. Well, they didn’t stop releasing albums, it’s quite a commercial comeback. Like everybody, I loved “Dookie”. They really created something and generated a whole wave of bands. Tt’s good to see them take over the throne ten years later. Today they were politicized, they are enough anti-USA of Bush….I admit that I’m a little bit fed up to hear bands who talk about tha even though I understand why they do that. Let us say that I’m a little full up to hear the word “america” in all the songs (laughs). But I bought this album when it was out, even though I admit it’s not my favourite from Green Day.

My Chemical Romance
“The Ghost Of You”
I need to listen this band, I don’t know them. I like their look and this song. I really need to buy their album.

System Of A Down
“Hypnotise”
Cool! I listen to them for a long time. My favourite song from System is “Aerials”which is on “Toxicity”. If I organise a party at home, I play it and people know that they must go (laughs). I’m a huge fan. It’s a band really interesting, who dares to do the things, who don’t think what people will say about. “The Radio Song” is crazy too.

Vegastar (french band who supported The Rasmus in France on 2004)
“100ème étage”
They supported us at Elysée-Montmartre. I remember, they sent us their demo. Before, it sounded like Linkin Park, I prefer what they do now, I feel they found their sound, they well-done to work on that. It’s super what happens to them.

Depeche Mode
“Precious”
It’s a very radiophonic song, I always liked the fact that they succeeded to keep their style and still being recognizable. The clip of this song is very beautiful. This is a band who have a lot of style. They fill stadiums with a facility. We met Dave Gahan in Norway in a festival, he was very nice and always in great shape. He succeeds to hold an audience spellbound with a disconcertingly easy, it’s a real rock star.

Muse
“Butterflies & Hurricanes”
Muse is one of the rare bands who makes me come to the first row to their concerts. Their music is full of positive anger. It’s like a storm, there are so much things in only one song. It’s also sometimes complex musically but they are incredible musicians.

Live report :
“Less than one year after their preceding passage in this same place, The Rasmus, took by storm the audience of Paris to glow in the darkness of the Elysée-Montmartre. Very strangely, the concert hall is not packed this evening but seems only made up of the hard core of the fans of Rasmus. The Finnish rock band Deep Insight, who support The Rasmus, get a great success with the rasmussien (a french word created to call the french fans lol) audience. It should be said that just like TR, we find in their music one mix of American rock and Scandinavian roots. Glad to have warmed up the voice, we feel the audience on the starting block before that Eero, Pauli and Aki go up on the stage. The audience explodes literally when after having awaited for a moment, Lauri joined his three friends. We can’t find better title that “Night After Night (out of the shadows)” to make the junction between the preceding tour and this one since it’s about the following of the famous “In the Shadows”. From the second piece “First Day of my life”, the pit sings all together every phrasing. We are not the only ones besides who appreciate this moment, the ease and the radiant faces of the band only proves it. In spite of the little of dates in the legs, the new pieces pass fine. Then, as us had entrusted Lauri, an acoustic set takes seat about the middle of the concert and reserves to us good surprises such as the two titles come from “Into” (“Chill” and “F-f-f Falling”) as well as a version of “Funeral Song” hypersensitive. “In My Life” and “Heart Of Misery” restart the authusiastic machine whereas both singles “No Fear” and the splendid “Sail Away” put a pause sign at the set. After a short break (encore), Eero (bass) takes seat behind the drums to have fun a few moments (beginning of Ghostbusters) before Aki return to the load and climbs on his stool under the eyes filled with wonder of his parents who hasten to photograph him. This soft madness will be concluded with “In The Shadows” and “Don’t let Go”. Applause well-deserved and the curtain is closed for good with, it should be acknowledged, a light point in the heart. Please don’t let go!”
