It’ll take more than few bottles to scare off The Rasmus…
The Rasmus frontman Lauri Ylönen has explained to Kerrang! why he and his bandmates walked offstage at the Reading Festival on August 29th, after being pelted with bottles and mud by members of the audience.
The Finnish rockers managed just two songs of their set, ‘First Day Of My Life’, and their most recent single ‘Guilty’, before cutting short their performance after bassist Eero Heinonen was hit in the face with an object thrown from the crowd and needed to recieve medical treatment to his right eye.
“We were really excited about playing Reading as a couple of the band had been there before as fans,” explains Ylönen. “When we came onstage at Reading, there was stuff being thrown from the crowd and though we tried to keep on playing, Eero got hit in the eye. We didn’t want to let down our fans, but Eero needed treatment and we needed to leave the stage.
“We’re not letting a few people at Reading put us off coming back to the UK, though,” he continues, “We’d like to thank all our UK fans who have sent us messages of support after Reading. We have a tour coming up in October and November, and we’re really looking forward to it. Hopefully our fans that missed us at Reading will be able to catch us on tour.”

Guilty? Reading Festival punters on The Rasmus’ hasty exit….
Alex, 19, Worcester: “We wanted to see them but they on early so by the time we got there they were already gone. I feel really sorry for the people who paid for a day ticket just so they could see The Rasmus. It was a bit unfair that the tiny minority of people who didn’t like them booed them off”.
Lynn, 17 Devon: “We were among the people booing. I did feel a bit sorry for them personally, but their music just isn’t right for this sort of event, it’s too commercial. It represents what a lot of people who go to Reading really hate. It was just a stupid idea to have them play here”.
Rob, 18 Bournemouth: “I don’t blame the band for walking off and it was pretty harsh of the crowd to do it. I think the problem was that they came on 45 minutes early so the people who were there weren’t there for them. It was a shame because I was really looking forward to it. I think maybe if I had a day ticket just to see them I might be asking for my money back”.
