The Rasmus gets his inspiration of horror movies [Estonia]

A few years back, The Rasmus got famous. We When we talk through phone, Lauri is in Scotland, in one Glasgow hotelroom. He seems to be a bit tired – there are so much gigs adn he is the only one in the band who drinks a bit to much sometimes. But however he has been to shopping already.

There are stories that horror movies inspires The Rasmus?
It is so. I remember that when we made our album in Sweden, we didn’t have time to go home between breaks. So we were together all the time and looked for collective acticity. And so we watched those films. My personal fave is people from ” Rise from hell” I think they are superstars! Today I went to shopping and bhought 7 films. I am total filmfreak!

What did you buy?
“A Clockwork Orange”, “The Virgin Suicides”, “Glory”, I have got them on VHD-cassets but now I got DVDs too. I adore Stanley Kubrick’s style.

The Rasmus started at year 1996, when you were 16 years old.
Yeah, we were quit young. We went to one school. To be honest, there were 20-30 people who had same taste in music. We had colorful hair…At the beginning we played Metallicas and others songs. And I played drums! We had a rehearsal room and we played there every day.

Don’t you think that you got famous too early?
We were famous in Finland…Maybe the sucsess game too early. We were schoolboys, who had very hard to control their emotions and feelings.

You quit school?
Yes. I thought that band is more important. Guitarist Pauli made the same thing.

Why don’t you play drums anymore? Why you sing?
When I was young, I played guitar and piano. I was in the middle of music all the timem but when I taped my singing…I hated my voice. But my sister heard me singing and said that maybe I should at least try to sing…Well, I tried.

Is it hard to finnish band brake trough in world?
Hard to say. For example in england there are milion bands who are rivals to each other…I belive in that it’s very hard there to get to the top. In finland there are less contest, but in our times for example others suggest to us to sing in finnish to have success. We answeredthat we won’t do that, we want to conquer the world and to sing in english- it’s national intercourselaunguage. So – in the beginning we wasn’t trusted, they didn’t belive in us. Nowadays are quiete many finnish bandswellknown and the attitude has changed. But the most important is to be special, then we can compete with other bands.

How the whole success changed your life?
With fame go together with perpetual to give concerts, which means that we have to travel a lot, to be in road all the eime, and I think it’s quiete romantic. We are still very young and in all sides very enthusiasmed- in every day it feels like there’s something new. But in the same is making stress on me that I don’t decide on a matter no more, cause for us there are working so many people that I don’t know them all. Maybe it sounds childish but I want to have control by myself. For our luck all bandmebers are very different. Like for example me and bassplayer are absolutly opposite. He lives to inside, meditate and do yoga, but me, I’m on the other hand always awkae and drink.
