LA one week.Taiwan the next. The Rasmus are busy, but hang on. There is new material and sooner or later will the be a album after the worldsucced Dead Letters. We have at least six new songs ready, Lauri tells OKEJ.
Behind the big red curtin on the Lisebergs scen, parts of The Rasmus stands and soundchecks. In front of the scen stand about fifty expectants fans, but they will wait a few hours more until there idols gets out on stage and the curtin pulls away. It’s five o’clock, the consert starts at eight.
With a acoustic guitar, Lauri sits and plays for himself. Mabye a whole new song. Or just a hole new version of an old one. He says he likes writing songs out on the road. He mets so many intresting people and gets to see many exiting places when he’s on tour and that gives him insperation.
“We have made six new demos on new songs and we write all the time, everything you need is a acoustic guitar and a computor, then you can write in the hotel or loge or tourbus”, Lauri tells OKEJ.
“Only problem with writing new songs under the tour is that we never have time to rehurse them together,” Eero fills in.
Though crowd
The last eighteen months of The Rasmus lifes have been amazing. They went from beeing a halfknown rockband on home ground to sell thousends of albums across the world on very little time.
“The most fun is almost that it’s going so good in England, becuse the audience is extra though there. But now we have sold over 200 000 copies in Great Britain! That is really big,” smiles Lauri but looks pretty tired. They all do, even though they actully had a few days vacation recently. But thats just it. When they do have vacation it’s just a couple of days or a week max, and offcoarse it’s hard work to always be on the road. To do interwiews day after day and then get up on stage to give everything to the fans.
“To play live is our reward. It’s the best bit of all this. To get contact with the fans,” says Eero.
That’s good that they feel that way becuse they are on tour constant to Christmas.
Polite fans in Asia
A few weeks before OKEJ meets The Rasmus in Göteborg, the guys played in Aisa. It was a whole new experience for everyone involved.
“They don’t have a rockculture there at all, but the crowd was great anyway. The could sing all the songs,” says Eero.
“And the fans were so polite! If you write someone a autograph they would go backwords away from us. They never turned their backs on us! But the strangest experience wasn’t the way the fans were acting. It was the food. And beverage.”
“I ate snakesoup and drank snakeblood,” Lauri tells proudly. “They gave me this beverage that contained snakeblood, poison and antidote and I pourd it in me!”
Incredible waves in LA
The Rasmus visit in Göteborg in August wasn’t all that dramatic. We met them first at the hotel were it was interwiews and fotoshoots going on. Everything was to take care of in just a few hours before the soundcheck at Liseberg at five o’clock and OKEJ also got to be with behind the scene.
Earlyer this summer The Rasmus were in Los Angeles to shoot their new video Guilty. And that was one of the summers absolut highpoints.
“We had a little holiday too. It was a good time, says Lauri that had been in LA before and moastly hanged out at the hotel when they were free. Eero on the other hand fell in love with Santa Monica Beach.”
“I was there everyday. The waves were fantastic! Though it was just me that bathed. The localpeople problaby thought it was to cold in the water…”
Pauli tells about how they wen up to the managerns house in Hollywood Hills and it almost felt unreal to see all the luxury.
“You could see the whole town from there. It’s amazing what houses there is up there. It was just like those places you see on movies,” Pauli says amazed.
Recording to spring
The rest of the time they went to conserts with local bands and visited the famous bar Rainbow Lounge where all stars go when they don’t want to be disturded by autographhunters and stuff like that.
“We saw Ron Jeremy, the pornostar, and two of the girls from Destiny’s Child. They were actully staying at our hotel,” Lauri tells before he needs to get in a taxi to do a radiointerwiew before the band does there soundcheck at Liseberg. It’s there only OKEJ gets to be with and before we are seperated to get ready for tonights concert they say that they are recording a new album next year.
“Mabye we start in March sometime, but there are so many countries that wants us to come and play, and there are so many countries we want to visit, so we can’t promise anything!”
