From the darkness…Lauri [Spain]

The co-founder of the finnish band the Rasmus, the favourite from spanish girls and becoming a megastar in the rest of Europe.
After a nine year carrer with much success in their homecountry, now The Rasmus is in the top of the charts all over the continent. Their Last album “Dead Letters” was one of the reasons of the band’s incredible success. The other reason is the charm and personality that is given by the singer Lauri Ylönen in each performance, a taurus guy that has fun with actual success but doesn’t forget thier beginings. “We were just kids who were let loose on a playground”, singer Lauri stated to the press when their first album “Peep” was released (1996). Two years before the band was taking shape in a highschool in Helsinki. “It all started as a game, but when we saw that people had fan and sang along our songs in our first shows, everything changed. Then after some time we started to make darker songs, more dramatic and personal lyrics”. From their sngle “In The Shadows” Lauri said: “The snigle “In The Shadows” is the reason of our worldwide success. When you write a song you always think is the best, but not all of them work as expected on people. With this single we were lucky to be able to comunicate everything the band has”.

A group work
In The band eachone of us tries to apport something and get the best result, “The best advice I’ve been given is that if you have knowledge, share it with those next to you, as far as your professional or personal life”the singer added. About their musical tastes…”all of us grow up listening to emblematic bands. You always want to be like them till you realise you have something personal that can make you successfull, that your music can also be recognised without following a particular style, But let the style catch you instead. Something like that happened to us, we were always listening to RHCP for example, but we followed our own path and it hasn’t been so bad. The chances of success increased with live performances. They travelled all arround Europe and also made a few shows in the U.S. “we’ve supported bands like Rancid, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Garbage which has given us much expirience and confidence in our performances.”
“With our last album with got into the dark side of people and gave them light. The two first singles showed the strong rock and pop we put in this album and now with the new songle “Guilty” it all be crowned”.

Romantic
For Lauri women and music are in the same level and are his inspiration…”not only in conflitive and dramatic situations there’s something to say. Love and relationships are the base elements to write great lyrics. We always try to show our inner strengh, and many may say that our music is sad, but I would said its melodic. Much depends on the point of view that inspires you when writing a song. Not everything is pink coloured in life”.

The future
After their memorable performance next to La oreja de Van Gogh, Alex Ubago, Coti and Deluxe on the MTV Day in Spain, where they made the official Spain presentation of their album “Dead Letters” in a show full of energy, Lauri and the band get ready to finish their european tour and record their next album before the end of this year. And its posible that they might visit us again and we will be able to enjoy all the energy that Lauri and the band give us in each song in the next few months.
