Finland rock stars come to Estonia [Estonia]

The Rasmus singer wishes that audience would feel stronger after the gig tonight.
Finland rock band’s singer Lauri Ylönen promises to give at tonight gig in Tallinn for many Estonians energy and emotions.

Lauri Ylönen, The Rasmus last album “Dead Letters” was released last year. What have you done meanwhile?
It was released in Finland last year march. And since then we’ve been practically on the road – from country to country. At first Scandinavian countries, Germany and then central Europe countries, England, Italy. tour-tour-tour.

How often do you perform to home audience?
Ah, this year just twice, we were at two festivals. It’s little but let’s be honest – we’ve been touring there for years. Now we have a chance to perform at other places in the world because we are going so well. Really.

You’ve said that you created the band because 10 years ago Finnish music sucked and there weren’t anything normal to listen. How is Finnish rock music now?

Well, I guess this statement is a bit over reacted, the reason was more… (Lauri yawns and apologizes because of the band’s tiring tour) that Finns have never respected music in English or their own people singing in English. Even we have been asked to sing in Finnish. But no way, we decided that we want to sing in foreign language. Of course there were sceptics who said that we’ll fail and won’t get nowhere. That was the situation then but now it’s slowly changing. And there are more bands – Nightwish, HIM are just few examples… Stradivarius – okay, they do more metal-music.

On your Website guest book is one very critical comment that says that The Rasmus isn’t a rock band and that people should more listen to Nirvana or Metallica. Do such opinions disturb?
People can think what they want. Funny that sometimes people start to talk about politics or something else on our web page. But that’s what it’s for.

But what do you think about that comparison?
Of course I have listen to both of these groups but we definitely have our own style. It’s a mixture of different styles. Actually when we started then we did Metallica covers. And Nirvana had some kind of affect as well but… No, that’s different.

Do you prefer to perform on big festivals and huge stages or more in small clubs?

It’s impossible to compare them. Personally I like venue gigs more because there the feeling comes better. But at the same time a big stage gives a chance to run around and bang drums… when I want to. Well, in Estonia there isn’t a space for such stage in club Hollywood.

The Rasmus doesn’t come to Estonia often, what kind of audience you are looking forward?
I think that actually people are the same everywhere – doesn’t matter is it in Estonia, Sweden or Asia. I like emotions. I hope it will be a cool gig. I promise it will be fun. Well, how fun… To tell the truth we have on our last album very many depressive songs – especially when you listen to lyrics – but I think that the feeling is the most important: live gig has a lot of energy and emotions. I want people to feel themselves stronger and full of energy after the gig.

What sort of music you are going to concentrate on Tallinn gig?
We surely won’t play only last album songs. We have five albums so we have a lot of material… We haven’t decided the set list yet.

Your world-tour lasts until the end of this year. When will you have a vacation?
Well, before Tallinn gig we had few days off at home in Finland. And what I did? You know, actually nothing. I just played guitar, met friends and had couple of drinks. I’m not into meditation or walks in woods… I didn’t have time for that. Maybe when the tour is over. To be honest I like to be at home and just relax. Well, I can’t rest a lot because next year we want to get our new album ready.
