When they were almost 16 years old, these friends found they way in music and it was the wright one!. The Rasmus became a big seller thanks to “dead letters” and today they are rasing in the charts with “In the shadows”. Know them in detail!

Whoever said that rock couldn’t be created in the coldest place in the world was wrong. The proof is this band that came together in a cold finnish winter and quilckly settled as one of the most played bands in the last month. Its true, overnight everybody knows and hums “in the shadows”, but this “media phenomenon” known as The Rasmus is not work of magic: they needed 5 albums to get their music be known in this side of theplanet. Everything started about 9 years ago in a school festival, in they hometown Hellsinki, where Lauri Ylönen (voice), Pauli Rantasalmi (guitar), Eero Heinonen (bass) and Aki Hakala (drums) show what they were made of. In those years their aims were small: they were satisfied with playing the local circuit and, mayby, to reach neibour countries. They never imagine that years after they’ll be getting platimun and gold discs, Emma’s prices and european MTV awards, or be listened to in courntries so far away as chile. “When you sit on a tour bus smelling like hell, telling the worst jokes and still feeling comfortable you know that you’re in the right place” – Bass player Eero.
And though the most important stages in europe are abeilable to them, the path to succsess was not an easy one. They first album “Peep” dates from 1996,this album opened they way for a new generation of bands. “We were just kids who were let loose on a playground”, singer Lauri remembers. With “Playboys”, their 2nd album, supported Garbage and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. But the big step to stardom came in 2001, when they signed a contract with Playground Music scandinavia and recorded F-f-f-falling, the song with which they left the reduce finnish market behind.

100% Quality
The rasmus is pure energy. The band’s name doesn’t mean anything, they just chose it cause it was short and easy to remember. If you listen to them carefully you’ll find out that they sound, without a doubt, very 80′s. “When performing live, bands like Bon jovi had always search for that special conexion with the audience and we love to find it. We’ve been influenced by many bands from that period and, i think that’s clear” singer Lauri says.
The evidence from that influence is present in every tone of their creations. For example, Singer Lauri, a sweet looking boy, its known for his great voice and, is also one of the most appreciated composers in Finland today. Pauli is an excellent guitarist and has also been recognized as a producer (Producer of the year at the Finnish Grammy 2001). He has helped Finnish bands like Killer and Kwan to create number 1# hits!. Aki joined The Rasmus in 1999, but before been a band member he was selling The Rasmus merchandise at their shows. One day he was asked to play the drums during a sound test and, that was it!. But this band’s songs wolud not be the same without Eero Heinonen quietness. he is in charge of the bass’s powerfull sound. Sahaja yoga gives me a peace of mind”, the soulful bass player explains.

Awesome Letters
The success far beyond the old continent came to be in 2003 with “Dead Letters”, it’s 1st single “In the Shadows” came from being N°1 in Denmark and Switseland to sound in the far away South America. The Producers made us watch so many horror movies that eachof us had nightmares” Lauri says. “Each song is a letter to somebody. It could be an apology, confession or cry out for help”, singer Lauri explains. “My lyrics are always personal and every word has a meaning that reminds me of something that has happened”, the singer says. “Dead Letters is, Without a doubt, The darkest album from our carreer”.
