The Rasmus at Sziget Festival [Finland]

Teenhits and harsh metal
In the international markets The Rasmus is still leaning into a couple of hit singles.
Budapest. In Finland there has been lots of articles and news about The Rasmus’ international succes, but it was a quite big suprise to see them playing as the main act in such a huge festival as Szigets.
Most of the people going to Szigets are over 20 years, but because The Rasmus there were lot of teenangers in the audience on saturday night (there were almoust 70 000 people). So the atmosphere was almoust same as in Finland: teenagegirls screaming,singing together and desperates loveconfessions to Lauri Ylönen. All of that at the same time were just little bit more than in Finland.
Otherwise things didn’t go as we (Finns) thought they would have. Abroad The Rasmus is only a know from their 2 albums. So they didn’t play to the hungaries, the old finnish hitsingles like Ghostbusters, Playboys or Liquid and from the newer production only the newest hitsingles seem to be know in the audience.
The Rasmus huge experience performing and the players technical confidence is also a strenght deputy in a big arena, but the international songorder is hanging way too much between the hitsingles. Gap between those The Rasmus has filled with less heard album songs, that aren’t any where nearby to directhits like In The Shadows and In My Life.
They have tried to get change from the Björk cover Play Dead –moviecomposition, but The Rasmus’ harsh cover interpretation doesn’t have the hypnotic beat. Lauri Ylönen has sang probably many times better: maybe the tight touring and the way he’s singing has take something away. Even tought the show partly went down it ended up in a great way with In The Shadows when everybody were jumping including the back rows too.
Goin down wasn’t even near when Chidlren Of Bodom was main act on metalstage on thursday evening. There were lot of different program at the metalstage, mainly hungarian heavy rock, but Children Of Bodom would have got the muscles to climbe to the top even with more famous artists. Their trump is right mix of harmony and metal aggression.
The result is really energetic and technicly blowing heavy, wich doesn’t accidental go into a comical fervent, but wich isn’t with it aggres, introvented and own rules fettered.
Amorphis was also in the finnish hard rock firstchain but wich unfortunately perforemed at the same time with The Rasmus.
