The band was formed in 1994…What has changed since then?
Lauri: When we began we were younger. In the high school there were special people, with weird looks, weird hair…and they still are my friends. At the beginning we wanted to play a lot of different styles. It was funk, rock, rap.. all mixed.. and every style was a mess. Now we do rock with melodies … the melody has always been there. I think in a sense the new album is a little sad, a melancholy album. In some way maybe it’s a little depressive, but it’s not music to finish with you, it’s for give hope….
So much seriousness…have you grown?
Lauri: We’re in a part of our lives where all is changing.. We’re growing up and thinking about what to do with our lives ’cause you only have an opportunity. I’m very happy for being in the band, basically I’ve never had another experience. I’ve never had a real job, I’ve never worked.. I think it depends on you, you can decide what to do with your life. Some people can control you, but at the end everything depends on what you want to do.
What do you think about Spanish public?
Lauri: We’ve only played once.. We played in Madrid. (I suppose this interview is from may ’cause they have played here in Barcelona and Madrid again days 27 and 28, and in this answer he talks about their concert in february …) The public’s answer was very good, people is very passionate here. In Finland and in other places fans are more calmed. Maybe it’s the climate, but mentality influences too. People here offers you their support quickly and this energy is transmitted to us.
Do you know someone of the artists who take part in MTV Day?
Lauri: No, I don’t know any.
And some spanish band?
Lauri: Yes, we met Dover. They are a good band, they play a very honest music. We’ve played with them, twice, in Germany two years ago. It was a nice experience and I hope see them this summer in festivals.
Money that is going to be collected on MTV Day will be donated to help the victims of the 11-M attempt. Can music be useful for the society?
Lauri: Yes, it can be. And it has always been useful. This initiative to obtain money for the families of the victims seems to me a wonderful idea and we’re pleased for being a part of this. But though it was not a question for obtain money, music is always good for people. You can have a lot hopes of the music. In addition it is a tool that helps me to control my feelings. Music is very powerful.
Are you going to do some special scenic staging for the show?
Lauri: We’re setting up a ramp or something like that, with 10 high meters and 11 width meters, in that way we can run around the stage. I don’t know if we will be able to bring this to Spain this day, but I hope yes… it has a style like 80′s. We like to do special things for the concerts, we like to do a real show, in that way people have a real experience in all senses.
What does The Rasmus contribute to the current scene?
Lauri: I think we did new thing, but old things too. We have a lot of influences in our music, but we mix a lot of things, like classical music, ’cause we have some classic baggage. I began playing the piano when I was 5, classical guitar too…Our bassist played the violin.
Which are your plans of future?
Lauri: Touring and touring…we’re going to go to many places, shows in Japan, America, Australia… great plans! Ah, and we meet on MTV Day.
