  • The Rasmus single #3 in Britain on week of release [Finland]

Finnish band The Rasmus’s single In the Shadows has gone into the U.K. charts at No.3 in the week of its release. It was the highest new entry in the chart. The single has already sold well in Central Europe after getting extensive MTV airplay, and was released in the U.K. on the Island label on Monday of last week.
The top spot went for a second week to boy-band McFly, with their debut single 5 Colours In Her Hair.
Two previous Finnish artists have made the British Top 10 chart – Darude and Bomfunk MC’s. …read more »

  • Finnish rock band makes British album charts top ten [Finland]

The Finnish rock band The Rasmus has made history with its latest album Dead Letters, which is now in tenth place on Britain’s list of popular albums. This is the first time that an album by a Finnish band has made it into Britain’s top ten. Dead Letters was released on April 12, and in the first week it rose to number 21. Meanwhile, The Rasmus’ single In The Shadows has remained number three on the singles chart. The success of the album bodes well for the group’s conquest of Britain, as well as a planned public relations trip to the United States. …read more »

  • Birmingham gig review [UK]

“Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. That, at least, is how The Who might have put it. Back in 1987, two rock bands ruled the UK charts – Bon Jovi from the US and Europe from Sweden. People liked their music because it was accessible or particularly alternative like most heavy rock was. It’s surprising that more bands haven’t balanced the equation similarly well since then. That’s why we should, even if it’s a little grudgingly, take our hat off to The Rasmus.
The Finnish band has got it exactly right. …read more »

  • From out of nowhere [UK]

It started with a top three single. Suddenly, The Rasmus are being touted as the future of rock. Now they’re being mobbed by teenagers and attacked by angry crows. Can Lauri Ylönen and co handle overnight stardom?
It’s half-past nine on a bone-chilling February weekday. Most of central London is deserted, but muffled cymbal-crashes and head-rattling cheers are wafting out of the Astoria theatre. Finnish rockers HIM have packed the venue, and a sweating throng is awash in Valo-worshipping delirium. …read more »

  • The Rasmus Mystery [Canada]

Ah Québec, unsoundable Québec, cradle of so many musical mysteries, when will you stop to astonish us? After the unexpected triumphs of Shawn Phillips and Sarah Brightman, here is the last: an old group of young Finnish rockers, superstars in their home country but virtually unknown of this side of the Atlantic, called The Rasmus.
In the United States, their hit “In the Shadows” has not played yet in radios; in english Canada, we wonder what to do with this thing. Here, Musique Plus and all commercial musical radios have quickly seized the song. Go understand. …read more »

  • Interview with the band about The Rasmus’ history [Netherlands]

The story of The Rasmus can be read as a bad boys book. Who thinks it’s only one chapter is wrong. There was a life before the success album Dead Letters. With the action on Pinkpop on the way the time is to start reading a few pages back.

When I’m waiting for The Rasmus in the hall of Schiphol on a Saturday afternoon, I notice I’m not the only one who’s came to see the band. Two groups of girls walk around telephoning, looking at the Tv …read more »

  • Desert rock Dubai interview [UK]

Phride.com had the chance to talk to frontman Lauri before the show and get some questions.

Phride.com: So how do you like Dubai so far?
Lauri: Well, I haven’t seen much since we’ve arrived. But they took us to a Desert safari last night, it was a bit too commercial, but we got to see a few camels and the true desert, it was nice. …read more »

  • It was weird when I heard “In The Shadows” on a mobile [Belgium]

The last few months, the Finnish rock band The Rasmus came into the European charts with “In The Shadows”. Also their album “Dead Letters” and their single “First Day Of My Life” are doing great in the charts.
Their formula to success? Melodic and melancholy rock with strong guitars in combination with the typical voice of their singer Lauri. Proximus went and spoke to Lauri for Play Inter@ctive. …read more »

  • The Rasmus: the dark half [UK]

Muse meets Bon Jovi? It all makes sense to The Rasmus, and they’re just about to take our shores and airwaves by storm. Rock Sound meets Finland’s number one sons.
Behind The Darkness’ posturing lies a colossal debt to early Bon Jovi and Guns N’ Roses hat no one dares to mention. We’re all still too haunted by images of leather pants and mullets down to your elbows to get teary and nostalgic about Jon and Axl just yet. But now The Rasmus are bashing up the airwaves with thier Scandinavian fusion …read more »
