A tuesdaynoon in Brussels. The tourbus of The Rasmus is in front of the concertroom of the Botanique, inside singer Lauri and best friend/bassist Eero are waiting for Joepie. There kind of tired, because they have already done a lot of interviews…
Joepie: Tired, guys?
Lauri: Kind of. We just came here from Paris and I believe that we’re going to Netherlands (The Netherlands) tomorrow. Nowadays, we spend our days with sitting on the bus, talking to journalists, doing soundchecks, quickly eating something and preforming. After that we get back on the bus, going to the next adres to preform. But we’re not complaining. I intend to stay a little bit longer in Brussels tonight to explore the nightlife. And we just got a coffee from the record company, so we’re good to go for a little while…
Joepie: Moreover there are a lot of German fans in front of the door trying to catch a glimp of you. That must be supportive?
Eero: It sure is! Those girls follow us sort of everywhere. It’s a compliment that they think we’re so good, that they chase us. It’s reassuring to see the same faces on the first row every night. Though I sometimes think we’re playing to the same public (laughs).
Joepie: To talk about preforming: not much people know that you guys already exist for 9 years. Moreover you’ve already preformed in the show of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, HIM, Rancid, Garbage an a lot of other big names.
Lauri: From those preformances we’ve learned a lot. But I especially was very proud when we could share the stage with the Peppers. Anthony Kiedis is a great guy. I admire him endlessly. The funny thing is that The Rasmus got through to people underwhile and that other bands preforme in our shows now. I notice that the newcomers are looking up to me now, as I looked up to Anthony. It feels crazy, but it’s also nice. I think it’s fun to give other bands a chance.
Joepie: Have you ever seen unexpected people in the audience?
Eero: Oh yeah. Some royal heads from Finland. Afterwards we met the princes, but what do you say to those people? It was a weard experience. A little bit a culture crash.
Joepie: Are there any scary moments that you can remember?
Lauri: The first time that I went to Disneyland I was so shocked: there were walking 2 Mickey Mouses! One at the entrance and one at the cowboypark. Man, that was the least thing that I expected!
Joepie: Euh… More positive meetings then?
Lauri: My heart goes to Matt Bellamy, the frontman of Muse. In Finland, I interviewd him. I think Muse is the best band in the world and it was such an honor to talk to him. Though I was so nervous: my hands shaked and I couldn’t get my recorder on because I was so nervous! But I know so much about the band, so our conversation immediately went deep. It was wonderful to brainstorm with Matt. Too bad that he’d never heard of The Rasmus. I immediately gave him our latest album, I hope that he thinks it’s good…
Joepie: Are there any other people you want to meet?
Eero: I already met Björk, but I wish that I could spend some more time with her. She is such a great artiste, nobody can what she can. And can somebody else join? Than I would say The Edge of U2. I think I could learn a lot from him.
Joepie: Lauri, it surprises us that you didn’t mention Amy of Evanescence. She could be your sister: you both have a passion for dark eye make-up, dark clothes, dark music…
Lauri: Last year, we would have toured with Evanescence, but Amy blew off the deal. I think she didn’t want to meet me, though I wonder why (laughs) But I still want to switch thoughts with her. Then I could finely ask her why she didn’t want to do the tour together.
Eero: If I’d meet Amy, I’d tell her to keep her clothes on.
Joepie: Pardon?!
Eero: She’s always announcing that she wouldn’t show nudity to have succes? That, with her, it’s only about the music? Wel…
Joepie: Is there anything wrong with girls showing some skin?
Lauri: No, of course not. Whatever. I just think that everybody of The Rasmus has seen enough nudity. Yesterday, we had a party that got a little out of hand in a club in Paris, calles The Pink. The names says enough, I guess?
Joepie: Yep, a more serious question perhaps: what do you do with the money you earn with The Rasmus?
Eero: Buying new guitars.
Lauri: Collecting music. I recently got all of the beatles albums on lp from my father. I don’t have a lp player at home, so it’s time I buy one.
Eero: (to Lauri) Though you’d better buy a showergel.
(to Joepie) Did you know that rockstars can smell so badly? Man, you wouldn’t want to sleep next to Lauri, believe me!
Lauri: I’m sorry, I haven’t got the chance to take a shower today. But before I go on stage later this day, I’ll go and find water, OK?
Joepie: Euh.. Don’t let us stop you. We only have one question left and that one is for Eero: how is it going with the upcoming fathership? Are you still planning to quit the band?
Eero: About the fathership I don’t want to talk anymore. I decided to keep my private life private. But don’t worry: for now, I’m staying with The Rasmus. Replacements for me aren’t necessary yet…
