The Rasmus: Dead Letters
You may think you’ve not really heard anything from this four-piece Finnish rock combo before, but in fact they released a CD in February 1998 entitled Into, though it was only released in the US.
Their latest release, Dead Letters is full of bigger and better things, including the dead catchy In The Shadows and the sombre but thought-provoking Funeral Song. …read more »
The Rasmus won the award in the category “Best Rock” at the TMF Awards, held in the Netherlands the 10th of April.
“In The Shadows” is the highest new entry in the singlelist in England at place number 3!
When “Dead Letters” was first played on the stereo at PlayLouder Towers it felt like something of a guilty pleasure, and the editorial team discovered to their collective surprise that we were all getting a mighty kick out of it. Because pop-metal records tend to be excruciating; angsty, embarrassing, formulaic tat for 13-year-old boys, and, it has to be said, it’s not as if “Dead Letters” isn’t at least some of these things, but it’s done so well that anyone with a keen sense of melody and enjoyment of a well put together tune should lap it up with glorious abandon. …read more »

Finland is not known for its pop heroes-until now. Helsinki foursome The Rasmus have an unnervingly poppy take on gothic heavy rock and this has already been number one in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Finland. Look out for the eccentric, but rather brilliant, “through the looking glass” video starring a downtrodden maid in a Victorian silent movie. It’s 80′s-style stadium rock, loaded on an infectious beat, then battered with stage-school dramatics, devilish guitar riffs and wild shreiking choruses. Evanescence might have to watch their backs.
***** star rating. …read more »
France is the new land occupied by the rock group that came from the cold: The Rasmus. These four guys with their teenage faces came here to make some noise and they will not definitely stay in the shadows.
You are in the middle of your European tour. How is it going?
It’s absolutely great! Anywhere we pass we meet a total hysteria. …read more »
Little known outside their native Finland until quite recently, The Rasmus may just have written one of the year’s catchiest songs in “First Day Of My Life”, the opening track of this, their fifth full-length album. That song has already topped the charts in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Finland, and is catching on like widlfire. Indeed it looks like repeating the feat in other countries, just like Europe’s “The Final Countdown” did all those years ago.
The Rasmus formed as school pals at the age of 16, …read more »
A tuesdaynoon in Brussels. The tourbus of The Rasmus is in front of the concertroom of the Botanique, inside singer Lauri and best friend/bassist Eero are waiting for Joepie. There kind of tired, because they have already done a lot of interviews…
Joepie: Tired, guys?
Lauri: Kind of. We just came here from Paris and I believe that we’re going to Netherlands (The Netherlands) tomorrow. …read more »
A month ago, nobody in the Uk had heard oh The Rasmus. One huge single later, they being touted as european rock’s next superstars. Say hello to the surprise hit of 2004.
Lauri Ylönen comes in black, from follicle ti footwear. Tickled by the smoke from a half finished Malboro Light he appears like a photo negative, a film noir still that might easily be framed and hung in the corner of this angular and fashionable Shepherd’s Bush hotel bar. Only the green glass of the bottles of expensive European beer …read more »
The Rasmus
With a top 5 single under their collective belts, frontman Lauri Ylönen and his Finnish rockers the Rasmus prepare to step out of the shadows with a handful of uk dates. Prepare then for Björk covers in an 80s hard rock style…
What can we expect from the shows?
Lauri: “you can expect a full energy performance but it isn’t all one pace. …read more »
The lowdown: On the evidence of The Rasmus’ surprise smash “ITS”, it seemed that these Finnish urchins were intent on ensnaring the rabidly devoted, mascara-weilding army of fans their compatriots HIM have built up by taking on their louche sheen and giving it a black pop twist so catchy it itched. But that song’s visions of grandeur only told half the story, because The Rasmus are the children of Europe – the ludicrous ’80s band whose moment of greatness began and ended with “The Final Countdown” and the continent. …read more »
The Rasmus: Dead Letters

IF ever there is a heavy metal version of the Eurovision song contest, Finland’s The Rasmus will come into their own. Perky grunge may seem a contradiction in terms, but somehow this band manages to hitch great, accessible tunes to massive swathes of guitar, that single In The Shadows providing a very convincing calling card.
The lesson of the success of bands such as Evanescence …read more »
Finnrocks childstars have been grown to international stars. Lauri Ylönen of The Rasmus opened up to Suosikki about his Gala-allergy and guyenergy.
Success brings strange side phenomenons. For example you can make a biothythm comparison in the Internet with Lauri Ylönen. I type my birthdate to the machine and the results come on screen: physical and emotional matches are fair, but intellectual match is only four percents! Damnit! …read more »
