Interview about the video of “In My Life” [Sweden]

The choise wasn’t so hard. Do you want to record you video in a studio in Stockholm or Helsinki, or do you want to fly to Cuba, spend a week there, and record it in a real jungle?
“Guess what we chose?”
The singer of The Rasmus, Lauri, don’t seem to regret their choise. Three days were filled with 18-hours recording-spells. But when it all was over, some lazy days were devoted to…
“Party! I saw loads of good looking girls, they were chubby both back and front, ha, ha!”

“The Cubans party all the time”
The band took the chance to swim and sunbathe. But when the sun started to subside, the partys started in streets and squares.
“The Cubans party everywhere all the time”, says the bass-player Eero. Cuba is a dictatorship. The houses are badly maintained, nothing works as it’s supposed to do, the population are not allowed to leave the country and you can’t make a living by working, so most people party, dance and drink. And sleep! It’s empty in the streets before eleven o’clock, but after that…
“People are playing everywhere means Lauri. We also put up instruments and played on the streets”.
The recording of the video “In My Life” became a real adventure. Cuba offers an unique environment.

Got hanged up in wires
“We have made a lot of videos in Finland” says Lauri, “but this one defeated everything. It’s very focused on me, but it’s not exactly an good-looking-guy-video. I throw myself headlong in a puddle of mud and got hanged up in wires that were pulled between trees. We had to drag an cuban windmachine in to the jungle to make a storm.”
But in the future Lauri dreams of the perfect video: “I want to record it on the roof of a skyscraper in New York!”
