Johnny meeting The Rasmus [Sweden]

The guys in The Rasmus talks about life, how do chat up girls and a murder they witnessed on their way to Germany.

Why do you call yourselves The Rasmus?
Lauri: It’s a Swedish boy’s name, it looks good. Some people think I am called Rasmus and that’s why we choose the name, but that’s not true.
Eero: The name looks energetic!

Aren’t you tired after 600 gigs?
Lauri: Life has it’s ups and downs.
Eero: When you’re sitting in a tourbus, smelling like shit, telling the worst jokes and still feel comfortatble you know you are in the right place.

How do you get eachother going before a gig?
Pauli: We put our hands on top of eachothers hands and scream Oooooohoooo.

Does it help?
Lauri: We wake the energy in our bodies.

Your album “Dead Letters” is on the dark, mystical side. Is that because you have been watching too many scary movies, or been involved in a murder?
Eero: We wanted it to be on the dark and mystical side. Both the lyrics and the music is darker than our older albums. While recording the album we were watching a lot of scary movies, I think we have seen all the scary movies that excist!
Lauri: But I think it is also pretty romantic. The songs I sing are personal and every word has a meaning that reminds me of something that has happened.

I’ve heard something about a murder you were involved in, is that right?
Aki: It was terrible! We were on our way to Germany with the ferry. When I wanted to exit my cabin I couldn’t open the door. Outside there was a dead girl. It was a horrible experience. She had taken an overdose. We prefer to fly nowadays.

What’s the best piece of advise you ever got?
Lauri: Travel the world!
Eero: Keep a low profile and get to know yourself.
Aki: The good will always win over evil.
Pauli: Share your knowledge with others.

Who would you like to do a duet with, and why?
Everybody: Björk!
Pauli: We thought about it for this album, but, maybe the next album! She does different music. She is a grown up but still a kid.

How would you describe eachother?
Lauri: I’ll start with Eero. Eero is the peaceful member if the band, he meditates and practises yoga.
Pauli: Then I’ll take Lauri. Lauri is the energetic and bouncy one on the band.
Aki: Our guitarist Pauli is the band’s brain. He also produces other bands, like Killer & Kwan. He’s a cool dude, hahaha.
Eero: Aki is one hell of a drummer!

Who is the nicest one of you?
Lauri, Aki, Pauli: Eeeeeeero, he lives healthy, no alcohol, no cigarettes.

Are you the total opposit, sex, drugs & rock’n'roll?
Lauri: You could easily say that…hehehehe.

What’s the weirdest thing that ever happened to you?
Pauli: hahaha, 3 years ago we played the biggest club in Helsinki when a naked man came up on stage and started dancing.
Lauri: Maybe he misunderstood the situation and thought we were girls…That time we were dressed up as nurses, in tight little white dresses.
Eero: Another time a girl threw about 10 pairs of knickers on stage. She had written her name and number in all of them. After the gig we called out her name and said she could come and collect her panties in the reception. We had a lot of fun then…

If you could be a fish, what would you be?
Pauli: A shark!

Is that a fish?
Pauli: In my world it’s a fish.
Eero: I would like to be a colourful fish and swin peacefully among the corals in some warm country.
Aki: An electric eel that sends out electric shocks.
Lauri: A cool salmon.

If you were not musicians, what would you be?
Eero: A painter! Ha ha ha.
Aki: I think we would have been working with something creative, maybe still with music.

How should someone NOT come on to you?
Eero: The most onsexy thing is a drunk girl who eats a french hot dog and the sause is running down her face and she try to flirt.

How SHOULD someone come on to you?
Lauri: I don’t like your new song and the band is crap. You wanna come home with me?

Do you fall for that?
Eero: No.
Aki: No.
Pauli: No.
Lauri: Yes, not from the beginning but after a while. Hahaha.

How do you flirt?
Aki: When we are in Sweden nobody recognised us, so we have to say we are huge rockstars in Finland!

You brag! Does it work?
Lauri: Sometimes, hahaha.

Dream date?
Lauri: The girls in Tatu!

Don’t think it would work…they have eachother…
Lauri: That’s why…then you’ll know about it, right!

A magic moment?
Lauri: Rainy evenings in the tourbus when you feel tired and sad.
Eero: Early in the morning out fishing with my brother. Everything is so still and quiet.
Aki: When two persons feel true love. Moments when everything feels just right.
Pauli: When I write new songs, and gigs.

What are you doing in three years time?
Pauli: Touring Scandinavia and some warm countries. We heard the fans are completely crazy in warmer countries!
