Boys To Men: The Rasmus is back [Finland]

You can soon call The Rasmus the youngest veteran-band in Finland. Even though they have hardly reached their twenties, they already gotten experience of the rock-world from several years. Due to the new producers in Sweden The Rasmus and the Band seem to be going through a good-phase. Many things have changed since the “hellofatester” three years ago. The drummer got so exited traveling in India, so he has been replaced by Aki. Also the record-company has changed and therefore to new “Into”-album have been invested in lots of more than in earlier releases.

- Our former record-company (Warner) even suggested us sing in Finnish, because the records would sell better. But on our new record-company (Playground) we already from the start began making a record, that would compete with all the other records in the world, Lauri explains.

As an appetizer from the new album “f-f-f-falling” is playing and I have a hard time believing this is actually the new The Rasmus. Feedback from the single has been all kinds.
- In that song there is quite a lot of that feelings going on and so that the song has caused a lot of contraversy. It didn’t come as a shock to us, nevertheless, since we were ready to all kinds of critics.

Their new album was recorded in Stockholm with a famous producer Micke Nordins studio. Lauri tells us than in Sweden they showed great interest towards The Rasmus. Even the new record-company is mainly swedish-owned.
- They showed so much interest and tryed to book us everywhere. But these first months we will remain in Finland and do lots of gigs. It is here we have all the fans and they are expecting us. Of course, how things start rolling in Finland will decide what are we going to do elsewhere in Scandinavia. So we are going to check their reactions, hopefully they will start playing our songs on the radio.
- We are really exited about going to gigs. For a year we have been training almost every day. Also the older songs had to trained with care, because we now have a different drummer.

How has the change of a drummer changed The Rasmus?
- It has had a tremendous effect, that even the style of our music changed and somehow it was a wake-up call to the whole band. Lot of things changed since our 3-record-deal with the Warner ended. We felt like “wow”!. Our original Janne informed us that he wants half-a-year- vacation, but it wouldn’t have worked out, since the rest of us wanted didn’t want to to have a break. He wanted to go out and see the world, he had spoken about it earlier of that to us.

Everything went very conveniently, when Aki joined the band. Aki has been a friend of ours for a longer time and has been in our concerts as a T-shirts salesman, so he was already accustomed to hang around with us. He is one hell of musician and has brought many new styles of producing.
How has a 3 years brake changed you fan-base, because they are already adults, those teens, who were you fans since you in your last record?
- Many reporters ask us, are we relieved that we are now longer a teenage-band? Why would we be? We still love to play in places where there is thousand teens going nuts. We play as well in clubs as in places without age-limit. Some fans write to us begging us come to those places, where you can already buy legally beer.

The Rasmus “Into” will be released on Friday 23tr of March.
