Rasmus performed in Lohja at Tanhuhovi on March 6th. We (the authors of this interview) were lucky to get to talk to the guys.
Before meeting the guys we were sure they would have got some liquid in their heads since getting famous, but we were wrong. The guys from Rasmus were very funny and childish! Interviewing them seemed impossible at first but finally they calmed down a bit.
And now to the interview:
Tell us first, how did the story of Rasmus get started?
Janne: It is a very dark story… It started in dark and pitch-black alleys, swampy lake where gays wander.
Lauri: We were in the same school and there was the Christmas party and we needed a band for that… And we’d been playing all kinds of stuff together before anyway…
Where does the name Rasmus come from?
Lauri: Janne came up with it.
Janne: I have actually invented the whole band.
Have you always had the same name?
Lauri: At first we were called Anttila.
Pauli: No we were not! We’ve always had the same name.
Lauri: Yeah…
What were your goals like when you started the band?
Pauli: The good old one. First Finland, then the world. Nah, I mean we didn’t expect anything. We just made music and then we were amazed.
Do you still have a goal to reach?
Pauli: Yeah, like really massive goals. Finland… World…
How did it feel like when your first EP got to the top of charts in a month?
Pauli: Great!
Janne: Really great! Totally great!
And how did it feel to see your face on a magazine for the first time?
Pauli: Awful! Or maybe not yet then. Back then it was cool!
Do you read a lot of stuff that is written about you?
Lauri: Yeah. Album reviews are most interesting. People write a lot of useless stuff…
How do you react to your fans?
Janne: We’ll welcome them all with open arms!
Do you often get mobbed by your fans?
Pauli: We rather mob them!
Janne: There’s more of us!
What would the audience of your dreams be like?
Pauli: At the moment it would be abroad. People who have never heard our music.
What’s been the best place you played a gig at?
Janne: Tavastia!
Lauri: Lepakko!
Janne: And festivals of course!
